Basic Principles

  1. Every child is unique, and the child is the first teacher of their development.

  2. The child’s development is a global and integrated process.

  3. Children learn through play.

  4. Collaboration and communication between educators, the daycare, and parents are essential to the harmonious development of the child.

  5. Learning is active.

Toddler development:

  • Promote language through: books, songs, music

  • Promote and encourage autonomy: to do for themselves: eat, dress, etc-basic skills

  • Gross motor: run, control, roll, climb, balance, coordination

  • Promote positive sleep habits: on a mat (training from a crib)

  • Promote positive eating habits: feed self, try new foods

  • Plan based on interest

  • Communication with parents, home like environment

  • Sensory experiences-textures, paint, clay, etc.

  • Playing with others

  • Express basic emotions

  • Start content: topics to explore through dramatic play based on children interest

  • Focus on literacy, learn new songs, movement experiences, music

  • Introduce and begin toileting if showing an interest
